JAMB CAPS: how to accept or reject your admission

Skolra is not part of JAMB. For official news, see jamb.gov.ng.

In short

  • CAPS is JAMB's Central Admissions Processing System. Every admission into a university, polytechnic or college of education must go through it.
  • Log in to your JAMB profile, open "Check Admission Status", then "Access my CAPS".
  • When you get an offer, accept or reject it quickly. In 2026, JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept, or the offer could be withdrawn.
  • After you accept, print your JAMB admission letter from the same portal.

What CAPS is

Your school does not admit you on its own. It recommends you on CAPS, and JAMB approves the offer there. Since the 2018/2019 session, admission has gone through CAPS only. An admission letter from a school is not enough if the offer is not on CAPS.

JAMB calls admission outside CAPS illegal. If you are admitted that way, you cannot print a JAMB admission letter, and you can have problems later with NYSC, Law School or a medical licence.

How to check your admission status

  1. Go to jamb.gov.ng and open the e-Facility portal.
  2. Log in with the email and password you used for registration.
  3. Click Check Admission Status.
  4. Click Access my CAPS and look at your admission status.

When JAMB approves an offer for you, it also tells you by email and SMS.

How to accept or reject an offer

  1. Open your CAPS page as above.
  2. Read the offer: the school and the course.
  3. Click Accept if you want it, or Reject if you do not.
  4. After you accept, go back to your profile and print your admission letter.

If you reject: your status goes back to "Not Admitted". Only reject an offer when you are sure you do not want it.

If you do nothing: at the 2026 policy meeting, JAMB said candidates must accept within four weeks, or the offer is withdrawn and they may lose a place that session.

When the school offers you a different course

Sometimes a school cannot give you the course you chose, but offers you another one. You will see this on CAPS as a transfer or change of course to accept or reject.

  • If you accept it, JAMB's rule is that you must then be admitted to the new course. You will be asked to do a change of course before you print your letter.
  • If you reject it or ignore it, you stay on your old choice and cannot be moved.

A school must not force you to change course outside CAPS. Read how JAMB change of course works.

Upload your O'level result first

JAMB will not consider you for admission until your O'level result is on your profile. If you were "awaiting result" when you registered, upload the result as soon as it comes out.

From August 2026, JAMB and WAEC started a way to upload a WAEC result from home. You get a verification code, then send VERIFY, a space and the code to 55019 or 66019, or enter the code on the e-Facility portal. The fee set for this in 2026 was ₦4,000, paid once.

Printing your admission letter

Print the letter from your JAMB profile after you accept the offer. In October 2026, JAMB's fees page listed the admission letter at ₦1,000, plus a ₦100 service charge. Your school will ask for this letter when you resume.

2026 admission deadlines

JAMB set these closing dates for 2026 admissions at its policy meeting in May 2026:

Public universities31 October 2026
Private universities30 November 2026
Polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education31 December 2026

The 2026 minimum UTME scores were 150 for universities and 100 for polytechnics and colleges of education. Many schools and courses ask for more. See JAMB cut-off marks, the cut-off marks by school and post-UTME screening by school.

Common problems

  • Your name is on the school's list but CAPS shows nothing. Wait a few days and check again. The school's list is only a recommendation until JAMB approves it on CAPS. If nothing changes, ask the school's admissions office.
  • CAPS says "Not Admitted". Check that your O'level result is uploaded and that you meet the school's cut-off. Admission is done in batches, so offers can come weeks apart.
  • You lost the phone number or email you registered with. Since September 2026, JAMB lets you change them once, at a JAMB office or approved centre, after a fingerprint check. Bring a court affidavit.
  • You have an old offer from an earlier year. In 2026, JAMB gave candidates with offers from 2021 to 2025 until 30 November 2026 to accept or reject them. After that, a late change costs a penalty fee. A 2026 candidate can reject an old offer without affecting a new one.
  • Someone asks you to pay to "process" your admission. Do not pay. Accepting an offer on CAPS is done by you, on your own profile.
