WAEC and gambian government consider computer-based exams

According to reports, the Gambian government and WAEC are looking at computer-based examinations. We have not yet seen an official notice from WAEC.

The proposal was discussed during a meeting that Dr. Habibatou Drammeh had with Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut and other officials. WAEC Council members and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Louis Moses Mendy, attended the meeting.

The officials said computer-based exams could improve administration, transparency and marking efficiency. They added that success will need adequate infrastructure, reliable electricity, internet connectivity and digital literacy.

The minister urged that technology be incorporated into classroom teaching and learning to achieve better results. Improvements were noted in Grade 9 and Grade 12 examinations, and the officials urged continued progress through collaboration, accountability and innovation.

Who it affects

Students in the Gambian secondary system could see changes to how exams are delivered.
