Federal ministry reports 12 staff agreements in tertiary institutions

According to reports, the Federal Ministry of Education announced twelve deals with both academic and non-academic staff unions in higher education. We have not yet seen an official notice from Federal Ministry of Education.

The agreements were announced on 13 October 2026. Minister for Education Dr. Tunji Alausa presided over the meeting where unions such as SSANU, NASU, ASUP, COEASU, NAAT, SSANIP, NOTSUP and SSUCOEN were represented.

The agreements aim to improve staff welfare and industrial harmony. Union heads urged that all pending provisions be carried out, arrears paid and commitments honoured.

The agreements intend to ensure four-year programmes are completed within four years without recurring interruptions and to provide a more coordinated framework for addressing problems in tertiary education.

Who it affects

The agreements affect academic and non-academic staff in tertiary institutions and the students who rely on uninterrupted programmes.
