Joint Union of Gombe State Tertiary Institutions Declares Indefinite Strike

Starting from midnight on 19 October 2026, the combined staff unions of higher schools owned by Gombe State began an indefinite strike. Lecturers and staff joining the strike are from the College of Education in Billiri, Gombe State Polytechnic in Bajoga, the College of Health Science and Technology located in Kaltungo, as well as Nafada's College of Education and Legal Studies.
Earlier, the unions had paused a planned strike that was set for September 17 to October 16, 2026, to allow talks with the government. On October 6, 2026, the Joint Union wrote to the government asking for an update on their demands. Government representatives met union leaders on October 17, 2026, but did not present a concrete resolution proposal.
The indefinite strike means that academic activities at the affected institutions are suspended until a resolution is reached. Candidates awaiting admission or awaiting results from these schools should expect delays in processing and communication.
