1.A ladder 6m long leans against a vertical wall at an angle 53º to the horizontal. How high up the wall does the ladder reach?
- A4.8Correct
- B5.2
- C3.6
- D4.0
Show answerHide answer
Answer: A
Height = ladder length × sin(angle) = 6 × sin(53°) = 6 × 0.8 = 4.8 m. The sine function gives the vertical component when the ladder makes an angle with the horizontal. Using sin(53°) ≈ 0.8 or 4/5 provides the height reached on the wall. - A

2.The power of the mirror is +2.5D. What is the radius of the curvature?
- A160 cm
- B80 cmCorrect
- C40 cm
- D20 cm
Show answerHide answer
Answer: B
Power and focal length are related by P = 1/f, with f in metres.
f = 1/P = 1/2.5 = 0.4 m = 40 cm.
The radius of curvature is twice the focal length: R = 2f = 2 × 40 cm = 80 cm.
A student who stops at the focal length and forgets to double it lands on 40 cm. Doubling the correct radius instead of the focal length gives 160 cm. Taking half of the focal length by mistake gives 20 cm.

3.Which of the following processes occur during fractional distillation of petroleum?
- AFiltration and crystallization
- BEvaporation and condensationCorrect
- COxidation and reduction
- DCracking and polymerization
Show answerHide answer
Answer: B
Fractional distillation is a purely physical separation process where crude oil is heated to vaporize components, which then condense at different temperatures in the fractionating column based on boiling point. Lighter fractions rise higher before condensing; heavier fractions condense lower. Cracking and polymerization are chemical processes applied after distillation. - A

4.(a) What are conversation laws?
(i) State three conservation laws
(b) State two reasons why animals are poached.
(i) Name five animals that are commonly poached.
(c) State four effects of excessive use of the forest.
(d) Explain briefly the following terms: i.blood transfusion ii.antigen
- AWildlife protection acts prohibiting hunting endangered species; forest conservation laws; national park establishmentCorrect
- BReforestation requirements; sustainable fishing quotas; bird migration protection
- CLicense fees for animal capture; pesticide regulations; wildlife export restrictions
- DInternational trade agreements; endangered species lists; habitat restoration mandates
Show answerHide answer
Answer: A
Conservation laws are legal instruments protecting biodiversity through species protection, habitat preservation, and resource management. They aim to maintain sustainable populations and prevent extinction. Poaching occurs due to demand for exotic species and economic desperation.
