1.The octal fraction 0.65 converts to binary as
- A0.110110
- B0.101101
- C0.101110
- D0.110101Correct
Show answerHide answer
Answer: D
To convert an octal fraction to binary, convert each octal digit separately into its 3-bit binary equivalent, then write them in the same order.
For 0.65 (octal):
6 → 110
5 → 101Putting the groups together in order gives 0.110101, which is the correct binary equivalent.

2.What will be the result of writing the formula=year[now[][ + 3 in a worksheet,of a spread sheet,if the current calendar is 14 august ,1960?
- A1957
- B1963Correct
- C1960
- D17
Show answerHide answer
Answer: B
NOW() is a spreadsheet function that returns the current date (and time). YEAR() is a function that extracts just the year from a date value. So YEAR(NOW()) pulls out only the year of the current date.
Since the current calendar date given is 14 August, 1960, YEAR(NOW()) evaluates to 1960. The formula then adds 3 to this year value: 1960 + 3 = 1963, which is the correct result.

3.The process of running more than one program concurrently is known as
- AMultiprogrammingCorrect
- BMultiprocessing
- CMultitasking
- DTime-sharing
Show answerHide answer
Answer: A
Multiprogramming is correct. It is the technique by which the operating system keeps several programs in memory at once and switches the CPU between them so quickly that they appear to run at the same time, even though a single processor is still only executing one instruction at a time. This is the standard computer studies definition of "running more than one program concurrently."

4.Examples of quantitative data type are?
- AName, address and marital status
- BNationality, occupation and hobby
- CAge, weight and heightCorrect
- DColour, religion and gender
Show answerHide answer
Answer: C
Quantitative data is data that can be measured or counted and expressed as numbers, such as age, weight and height. These values can be added, averaged and compared numerically.

5.The following options are examples of information except?
- AA set of unlabelled numbers written down without any contextCorrect
- BA student's termly result slip showing scores in every subject
- CA bank statement showing a customer's account transactions
- DA weather bulletin forecasting tomorrow's rainfall
Show answerHide answer
Answer: A
In Computer Studies, data and information are not the same thing. Data is raw facts, figures or symbols that have not yet been processed and, on their own, carry no meaning. Information is data that has been processed, organised or given context so that it is meaningful and useful for understanding or decision-making.

6.Thy following programs are general purpose application software except
- ASpreadsheet
- BPayroll packageCorrect
- CWord processor
- DDatabase management system
Show answerHide answer
Answer: B
General purpose application software is written to handle a wide range of tasks for many different users, across many different organisations, and the user supplies the specific data and format. Word processors, spreadsheets, and database management systems all fit this description: a word processor can be used to type a letter, an assignment, a report or a novel; a spreadsheet can budget a household, analyse exam scores, or track a shop's stock; a database management system can store student records, hospital records, or library records.
So the odd one out, the one that is not general purpose application software, is the payroll package.

7.A student would require the following devices to online application form except?
- AComputer system
- BInternet modem
- CScanner
- DTelevisionCorrect
Show answerHide answer
Answer: D
To fill an online application form (for example a JAMB or WAEC registration form), a candidate needs devices that let them access the internet, view and complete the form, and digitise supporting documents.

8.Ethical practice requires a computer user to
- Ahack into other people's online accounts without their permission
- Bduplicate licensed software and share it freely
- Cacknowledge the source of any information or material he usesCorrect
- Daccess and alter another user's files without consent
Show answerHide answer
Answer: C
Ethical practice requires a computer user to acknowledge the source of any information or material he uses. Computer ethics is built on honesty and respect for other people's work. When a student or worker copies text, data, images or code from somewhere and uses it as their own without stating where it came from, that is plagiarism — a breach of intellectual property rights, which is a core topic under computer ethics in the WASSCE syllabus. Giving credit to the original author is one of the clearest, positive duties an ethical computer user has.

9.The following instructions are guidelines for drawing flowcharts except that?
- AA flowchart should begin with a start (terminal) symbol and end with a stop (terminal) symbol
- BArrowheads should be placed on flow lines to show the direction in which the flow is to be read
- CFlow lines should be made to cross one another as often as possible to save space on the pageCorrect
- DStandard symbols must be used to represent each type of operation, such as a rectangle for a process and a diamond for a decision
Show answerHide answer
Answer: C
This is a WAEC "except" question on flowchart conventions, so the correct option is the one that is not an actual guideline.
- A
-
10.One similarity between bespoke software and application packages is that they are?
- Asystem software
- Bprogramming languages
- Capplication softwareCorrect
- Dutility programs
Show answerHide answer
Answer: C
Bespoke software is custom-built to meet the specific needs of one organisation (e.g. a payroll system built only for one company), while an application package is ready-made, off-the-shelf software sold for general use by many different users (e.g. Microsoft Word, spreadsheet programs).
