Call to open NELFUND loans to private university students

According to reports, Professor Samuel Adedokun urged the Federal Government to extend NELFUND student loans and TETFund benefits to private universities. We have not yet seen an official notice from NELFUND.
He stated that private tertiary institutions play a crucial role in higher education and should access government research funds and loan support. Public universities cannot admit every qualified applicant seeking a place. Students who enroll in private schools because public campuses lack space deserve equal rights to financial aid.
Professor Adedokun also asked why the government fails to fund scholars in private schools. He noted that private universities perform well when compared with public institutions.
In another development, the National Universities Commission granted approval for fifteen new academic degree courses at Owolabi University. These new additions span three faculties and focus on giving students essential training in professional, scientific, technical, commercial, and social fields.
The Faculty of Allied Health Sciences received approval for Nursing Science, Physiotherapy, Public Health, Nutrition and Dietetics, alongside Medical Laboratory Science. The Faculty of Management and Social Sciences gained approval for Accounting, Business Administration, Criminology and Security Studies, as well as Economics.
