JAMB Now Allows Candidates to Change Lost Phone Numbers and Email Addresses
Candidates who can no longer use the phone number or email address they registered with JAMB now have a way to update them.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has lifted its earlier ban on SIM swaps and email changes. From Monday, 21 September 2026, candidates who have truly lost access to their registered SIM card or email account can change them through a controlled process.
Why JAMB changed the rule
JAMB first stopped these changes to protect candidates' records, because they could be misused at the time. The Board says it has since introduced stronger checks, especially better identity and biometric verification. With those in place, it is now safe to allow changes in genuine cases.
The goal is to help candidates who were stuck, for example those who could not register for a new UTME because their old number no longer works. It should also make the road to admission smoother.
Important: you can only do this once
The SIM swap or email change is allowed one time only. Strict identity checks apply to stop impersonation, fraud and unauthorised changes to records.
Where to go
The service is only available at JAMB CBT Centres (PTC/PRC), including JAMB State Offices where applicable. It cannot be done anywhere else.
What to bring
- Your new phone number and/or new email address
- A sworn court affidavit, scanned and ready to upload
How to do it, step by step
- Log in to your JAMB e-Facility profile with your existing email address, Registration Number or Profile Code.
- From the menu, choose "SIM Swap/eMail Change Payment" and pay the fee.
- Go to a JAMB CBT Centre (PTC/PRC). There, open the SIM Swap/eMail Change QuickLink, enter your Profile Code or old phone number, and click "Fetch Details."
- Complete the biometric check, then choose what you want to change: phone number only, email only, or both.
- Enter your new phone number and/or email address and upload your scanned court affidavit.
- Click "Update." A message will confirm that the change was successful.
A word of caution
Only use official JAMB CBT Centres (PTC/PRC) for this service. Be careful of anyone offering to do it for you elsewhere.
JAMB says the new policy balances keeping candidates' data safe with making sure genuine candidates are not held back by problems they did not cause.
