LAUTECH ASUU strike begins after unpaid entitlements dispute

Newspapers report that LAUTECH ASUU began an indefinite strike at midnight on Wednesday, 28 October 2026 over unpaid entitlements and an unimplemented agreement. We have not yet seen an official notice from LAUTECH.

The strike follows a 14-day ultimatum issued on 14 October 2026 that expired without sufficient response from university management. The union declared a trade dispute on 14 October 2026 with backing from its National Executive Council.

The 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement was signed in December 2025 and approved for implementation by LAUTECH’s Governing Council. LAUTECH management claimed lack of funds delayed full implementation of the agreement.

ASUU demanded payment of all outstanding staff entitlements, including Earned Academic Allowance balance and promotion arrears from 2013 to 2025. University management met ASUU representatives on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, and said they were contacting the Visitor and Oyo State Governor for intervention.

ASUU said LAUTECH is among just two universities in the South West that have not fully applied the 2025 agreement.
