1.Which of the following animals is not normally bred in West Africa for the product indicated beside it?
- APoultry – Eggs
- BPig – WoolCorrect
- CGoat – Meat
- DCattle – Milk
Show answerHide answer

Goats are reared mainly for meat (chevon) — a correct pairing.
Cattle are reared for milk (as well as meat and hides) — a correct pairing.
Poultry (fowls) are reared for eggs (and meat) — a correct pairing. - A

2.Which of the following is not a biotic factor affecting agricultural production?
- ARainfallCorrect
- BWeeds
- CPests
- DDiseases
Show answerHide answer
Answer: A
Biotic factors are the living things in the environment that affect crop and animal production — organisms such as pests, weeds, disease-causing agents (pathogens), predators and pollinators. Abiotic factors are the non-living, physical/climatic elements such as rainfall, temperature, sunlight, humidity and soil type.

3.Which of the following is not a source of agricultural finance in Nigeria?
- APersonal savings
- BCo-operative societies
- CTaxationCorrect
- DCommercial banks
Show answerHide answer
Answer: C
Taxation is not a source of agricultural finance. Taxation is money the government collects from farmers and other citizens (e.g. as revenue for the state); it does not put capital into a farmer's hands. A source of agricultural finance must be something that supplies money or credit to the farmer to run or expand the farm business.
So while the three banking/savings/co-operative options all genuinely inject capital into farming, taxation only removes money from the economy for government use, which is why it stands out as the one that is not a source of agricultural finance.

4.An unproductive animal completely removed from the rest of the stock is said to be
- Aquarantined
- Bisolated
- Cweaned
- DculledCorrect
Show answerHide answer
Answer: D
Culling is the correct term. In livestock management, culling means permanently removing an unproductive, diseased, old or inferior animal from the herd or flock so that it no longer forms part of the breeding or production stock. A farmer culls animals that are poor layers, poor milkers, poor breeders, or simply not paying their way, so that only productive animals remain and herd quality improves.

- AFodder
- BSoilageCorrect
- CHay
- DSilage
Show answerHide answer
Answer: B
Soilage is the correct answer. 6.Which of the following group of diseases mostly affect goats in Nigeria?
- AAfrican swine fever, swine erysipelas and hog cholera
- BPeste des petits ruminants, pneumonia and foot rotCorrect
- CRinderpest, trypanosomiasis and anthrax
- DNewcastle disease, fowl pox and coccidiosis
Show answerHide answer
Answer: B
Peste des petits ruminants (PPR, locally called "kata"), pneumonia and foot rot are the group of diseases that mostly affect goats (and other small ruminants) reared in Nigeria. PPR is a highly contagious viral disease of goats and sheep causing fever, discharge, mouth sores and diarrhoea; pneumonia affects the respiratory system especially in poorly ventilated pens; and foot rot is a bacterial infection of the hoof common in goats kept on wet, muddy ground.
So a candidate who confuses which animal group each disease belongs to would wrongly pick one of these other options.

8.Which of the following will not help milk let-down in a lactating dairy cow?
- AFrightening the cow with loud noise during milkingCorrect
- BAllowing the calf to suckle briefly before milking
- CWashing the udder with warm water before milking
- DGently massaging the udder before milking
Show answerHide answer
Answer: A
Milk let-down is a reflex action: the hormone oxytocin is released from the cow's pituitary gland and makes the muscle cells around the udder's alveoli squeeze milk into the cisterns, where it can be drawn or sucked out.
So warm water washing, calf suckling and gentle massaging all help let-down, while frightening the cow with loud noise is the one practice that will not help it.
