    Show answerHide answer

    Answer: C

Primary succession is correct. Pioneer species like lichens and mosses colonize first, gradually building soil that allows later communities to establish.

    Show answerHide answer

    Answer: A

Correct answer: The 1976 Local Government Reform.

This reform, introduced under the Murtala Muhammed/Obasanjo military administration, restructured local government nationwide into a uniform, elected system. One of its key features was removing traditional rulers (obas, emirs, chiefs) from active party politics and administrative control of local government, confining their role instead to ceremonial and advisory functions through Traditional Councils.

  4. From the Economics paper

    4.

The contribution of petroleum to the economy of Nigerian is most prominent in the area of

    1. A
      Rapid industrialization of the economy
    2. B
      Development of rural infrastructure
    3. C
      Provision of revenue for government
      Correct
    4. D
Generation of employment for the teeming population
    Show answerHide answer

    Answer: C

Provision of revenue for government is correct. Crude oil sales and petroleum profits tax make up the largest share of the Nigerian government's revenue, which is why petroleum is often called the mainstay of the economy.

Employment generation is tempting but wrong: the oil and gas sector is capital-intensive, not labour-intensive, so it employs relatively few Nigerians compared to agriculture or trade.

The return on debenture holding is

    1. A
      commission
    2. B
      interest
      Correct
    3. C
      discount
    4. D
      dividend
    Show answerHide answer

    Answer: B

A debenture is loan capital, not share capital. When a company issues debentures, it is borrowing money, and the debenture holder is a creditor of the company, not a member or owner of it.

The reward paid to anybody who lends money is interest. Debenture interest is a fixed charge against profit, so it is debited in the profit and loss account before net profit is arrived at, and it must be paid whether the company makes profit or not.

Many candidates rush and choose dividend. Dividend is the return to shareholders — the owners — and it is an appropriation of profit, declared only when profit is available. That is the exact difference the examiner is testing.
