FUTO post-UTME past questions

Ten questions from our FUTO post-UTME bank, with answers and explanations.

  1. 1.

Which of the following animals lack alimentary canal?

    1. A
      Cockroach
    2. B
      Earthworm
    3. C
      Tapeworm
      Correct
    4. D
      Housefly
    Show answerHide answer

    Answer: C

The tapeworm is a parasite that lives in the host's intestine and has no gut of its own; it absorbs already-digested food directly through its body surface.
Earthworm, cockroach and housefly all possess a complete alimentary canal for digesting their own food.

  2. 2.The cilia in paramecium are used for
    1. A
      excretion
    2. B
      reproduction
    3. C
      locomotion and feeding
      Correct
    4. D
      respiration
    Show answerHide answer

    Answer: C

In Paramecium, the beating of cilia serves two vital roles at once: propelling the organism through water (locomotion) and sweeping food particles into the oral groove (feeding).

  3. 3.A cell can supply currents of 0.4A and 0.2A through a 4.0ω\omega and 10.0ω\omega resistors respectively. The internal resistance of the cell is
    1. A
      0.5 Ω
    2. B
      1.0 Ω
    3. C
      2.0 Ω
      Correct
    4. D
      4.0 Ω
    Show answerHide answer

    Answer: C

    Equating EMF: 0.4(4+r) = 0.2(10+r) → r = 2.0 Ω.

  4. 4.A man standing between two parallel mirrors in a barber's shop will sec the following number of his own image
    1. A
      Two
    2. B
      Four
    3. C
      Three
    4. D
      Infinite
      Correct
    Show answerHide answer

    Answer: D

Parallel mirrors produce a theoretically infinite number of images.

  5. 5.The distance between the nuclei of chlorine atoms in a chlorine molecule is 0.194nm. The atomic radius of chlorine atom is
    1. A
      0.388 nm
    2. B
      0.049 nm
    3. C
      0.097 nm
      Correct
    4. D
      0.194 nm
    Show answerHide answer

    Answer: C

The internuclear distance (0.194 nm) in the Cl2 molecule equals twice the atomic radius, so the atomic radius = 0.194/2 = 0.097 nm.
  6. 6.Which of the following compounds is composed of Al, Si, O and H?
    1. A
      Kaolinite (china clay)
      Correct
    2. B
      Feldspar
    3. C
      Quartz
    4. D
      Mica
    Show answerHide answer

    Answer: A

Kaolinite, Al2Si2O5(OH)4, is the clay mineral composed of aluminium, silicon, oxygen and hydrogen, formed from the weathering of aluminosilicate rocks.
  7. 7.Which of the following organs is associated with deamination of proteins?
    1. A
      Spleen
    2. B
      Liver
      Correct
    3. C
      Pancreas
    4. D
      Kidney
    Show answerHide answer

    Answer: B

The liver carries out deamination, removing the nitrogen-containing amino group from excess amino acids and converting it to urea.
The kidney later excretes the urea produced, the pancreas makes digestive enzymes and hormones, and the spleen deals with blood cells, none of which perform deamination.

  8. 8.

An object is projected with a velocity of 80ms−1^{-1} at an angle of 30° to the horizontal. The maximum height reached is

    1. A
      40 m
    2. B
      160 m
    3. C
      80 m
      Correct
    4. D
      240 m
    Show answerHide answer

    Answer: C

    H = (v sinθ)²/2g = 80 m.

  9. 9.A spring is compressed through a distance of 0.05m to store 75J of energy. What is the spring constant?
    1. A
      1.5 × 10³ N/m
    2. B
      3.0 × 10⁴ N/m
    3. C
      3.0 × 10³ N/m
    4. D
      6.0 × 10⁴ N/m
      Correct
    Show answerHide answer

    Answer: D

    k = 2E/x² = 150/0.0025 = 60,000 N/m.

  10. 10.The organelle involved in tissue respiration is the
    1. A
      mitochondrion
      Correct
    2. B
      ribosome
    3. C
      chloroplast
    4. D
      golgi body
    Show answerHide answer

    Answer: A

The mitochondrion is the organelle where aerobic (tissue) respiration takes place, breaking down glucose to release ATP energy. Ribosomes make proteins, and chloroplasts carry out photosynthesis, not respiration.

How to prepare for the FUTO post-UTME

There is no written test, so your UTME score and your O'level results decide your place. Make sure your O'level result is on your JAMB profile: JAMB does not consider you for admission without it. How to upload your O'level result.

The higher your UTME score, the better your chance. Practise with JAMB past questions before the next UTME.
